Rebirthing Breathwork: Healing Old Patterns, Releasing Emotional Blocks and Finding Your True Self

Discover how Rebirthing Breathwork may help you reconnect with yourself, process difficult emotions and create a more peaceful, authentic life.

Have you ever felt that, despite everything you have done to grow, learn and understand yourself, something inside you is still holding you back?

Perhaps you find yourself repeating the same relationship patterns, feeling overwhelmed by everyday life, struggling with stress or anxiety, or carrying emotional pain from experiences that happened many years ago.

Maybe you have spent years being the strong one, the people-pleaser, the responsible one, the one who keeps everything together. You may have built a life that looks perfectly fine from the outside, yet inside you feel exhausted, disconnected or quietly aware that something needs to change.

Or perhaps you have reached a stage of life when the roles you have always played no longer feel right. You want to understand who you really are beneath the expectations, conditioning and patterns that have shaped your life.

If any of this resonates with you,

Rebirthing Breathwork may offer a new way to explore your inner world and reconnect with yourself.

At Suma Holistic Therapies in Newbridge, County Kildare, I offer individual Rebirthing Breathwork sessions for people who are ready to explore their emotional patterns, deepen their self-awareness and move towards a more authentic way of living.

What is Rebirthing Breathwork?

Rebirthing Breathwork is a conscious breathing practice that uses a continuous, connected breathing rhythm, allowing the inhale to flow into the exhale without a deliberate pause.

Unlike ordinary breathing exercises designed simply to help you relax, a Rebirthing Breathwork session offers dedicated time and space to turn your attention inward and explore your experience beyond the constant activity of the thinking mind.

During a session, you are supported as you pay attention to your breath, body sensations, emotions and thoughts. Some people experience a sense of deep relaxation; others notice emotions, memories or patterns that they had not fully recognised before. Every person's experience is different.

The approach I offer at Suma is rooted in the understanding that our past experiences can influence how we feel, respond to situations and relate to ourselves and others in the present.

Sometimes, understanding a pattern intellectually is not enough to change how we experience it. Breathwork can offer another way of exploring these patterns through awareness of the body, emotions and breath.

It is not about forcing an emotional release or making something happen. It is about creating space to listen to yourself, with curiosity and support.

How can Rebirthing Breathwork help with stress and anxiety?

Modern life asks a great deal of us. We juggle responsibilities, relationships, work, family expectations and the constant pressure to keep going.

Over time, stress can leave us feeling disconnected from our bodies and emotions. We may become so accustomed to functioning, coping and meeting other people's needs that we lose touch with our own.

You might notice that you are always thinking, anticipating problems, trying to please everyone or finding it difficult to switch off. Perhaps you know you need a change but cannot quite identify what is keeping you stuck.

Breathwork is being researched as a potential support for stress and emotional wellbeing.

For some people, a guided session may provide an opportunity to slow down, become more aware of their inner experience and explore feelings they rarely have time to acknowledge.

Rather than expecting yourself to fix everything through positive thinking, you can begin by noticing what is happening within you.

Sometimes, meaningful change begins with that simple act of turning towards yourself.

Healing past trauma and breaking free from old emotional patterns

Have you ever wondered why you react so strongly to certain situations, even when you know intellectually that you are safe?

Why does criticism feel unbearable? Why is it difficult to set boundaries without feeling guilty? Why do you keep choosing relationships in which your own needs come last? Why can you recognise a pattern clearly and still struggle to change it?

Our experiences, especially those during childhood and important relationships, can shape our beliefs about ourselves and the world. We may learn to stay quiet to avoid conflict, become exceptionally independent because relying on others feels unsafe, or work hard to earn love and approval.

These responses may once have helped us cope. Yet later in life, they can leave us feeling trapped in patterns that no longer serve us.

Rebirthing Breathwork offers a space to explore your emotional experience and notice what may be influencing your present-day responses.

You do not need to know exactly where a pattern began before you start exploring it. Nor do you need to revisit every painful experience or relive your past to move forward.

The intention is not to erase your history. It is to develop a different relationship with it, with greater awareness, self-compassion and freedom to make new choices.

Breathwork can sometimes bring up intense emotions or unexpected experiences. This is why appropriate screening, careful facilitation and respect for your individual pace are important. Rebirthing Breathwork is a complementary wellbeing practice, not a substitute for professional trauma treatment or medical care.

Rebirthing Breathwork for women in perimenopause and menopause

Perimenopause and menopause can be times of profound physical and emotional change.

Alongside changes in the body, some women begin questioning their identities, relationships, priorities and the lives they have built. Old coping strategies may feel less sustainable. The expectations they have carried for years may become harder to ignore.

You may find yourself asking:

  • Who am I now, beyond being a mother, partner, daughter, employee or caregiver?

  • Why am I suddenly questioning so many things I once accepted?

  • Why do I feel that I have spent years putting everyone else first?

  • What do I actually want from the next chapter of my life?

  • How can I stop living according to old expectations and start listening to myself?

For some women, this stage of life becomes an invitation to look more deeply at who they are and what matters to them.

Rebirthing Breathwork can provide dedicated space for reflection, emotional awareness and self-exploration during this transition. It may help you notice patterns that you are ready to question and make room for a clearer sense of your own needs and values.

It is not a treatment for menopausal symptoms or a replacement for appropriate medical support. Rather, it can be explored as one part of a broader approach to emotional wellbeing and personal growth.

You do not have to wait until you reach breaking point to begin listening to yourself.

Rebirthing Breathwork and neurodivergence: Making space for your authentic self

As I am neurodivergent myself I have great compassion for people experiencing the same.

For neurodivergent people, including people with ADHD or autism, life can sometimes involve considerable effort to navigate expectations that do not naturally fit the way they experience the world.

Perhaps you have spent years masking parts of yourself, trying to appear organised, sociable, calm or capable even when you feel overwhelmed inside.

Perhaps you have been misunderstood, criticised for being different or taught to question your own needs.

You might feel exhausted from trying to keep up with expectations while struggling to explain why everyday situations can feel so demanding. And maybe you can't seem to find the words to express how you are feeling.

Over time, adapting to the world around you can make it difficult to distinguish between the person you truly are and the version of yourself you have learned to present.

A Rebirthing Breathwork session offers an opportunity to turn your attention inward, notice your own experience and explore what you need without having to perform for anyone else.

You do not need to arrive with the right words or a clear explanation of how you feel. Your experience is welcome as it is.

For neurodivergent clients, it is particularly important that the session environment, sensory needs, communication style and pace feel appropriate. Breathwork is not suitable for everyone, and a personalised consultation can help determine whether this approach is right for you.

The aim is never to change who you are or make you fit a particular idea of how you should be. It is to support greater self-understanding and a more compassionate relationship with yourself.

When you are ready to change your life but do not know where to begin

There comes a point when simply understanding your difficulties may no longer feel like enough.

You may have read the books, listened to the podcasts, attended workshops or spent years trying to work on yourself. You understand many of your patterns, yet something still seems to pull you back into familiar ways of thinking, feeling or behaving.

Perhaps you are ready to leave behind an old version of yourself, make different choices in your relationships, become more confident in expressing your needs or finally pursue something that feels meaningful to you.

Personal transformation does not have to mean becoming someone entirely different.

Sometimes it means letting go of the beliefs that tell you that you are not good enough. Sometimes it means recognising that you no longer have to earn love by pleasing everyone. And sometimes it means discovering that the life you genuinely want may look very different from the life you were taught to pursue.

Rebirthing Breathwork can be part of this journey of self-discovery. By creating space to explore your internal experience, it may help you recognise patterns, clarify what matters to you and approach your choices with greater awareness.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin.

You only need to be willing to become curious about what is happening within you.

Discovering who you are beneath your roles and conditioning

Perhaps the deepest question is not what you need to fix about yourself, but who you are beneath everything you have learned to be.

Beneath the expectations. Beneath the need to please. Beneath the fear of disappointing others. Beneath the identities you have carried because they were expected of you.

Who are you when you are no longer trying so hard to be what everyone else needs?

What do you feel when you give yourself permission to listen?

What might become possible if your choices were guided less by old fears and more by your own values, needs and inner sense of direction?

These questions sit at the heart of the work I offer at Suma Holistic Therapies.

My approach to Rebirthing Breathwork is centred on supporting you as you explore your inner world and develop a deeper connection with yourself. There is no single destination you have to reach and no particular experience you need to have.

Your journey is your own.

The intention is to help you create space for greater self-awareness, emotional understanding and the possibility of living in a way that feels more authentic to you.

What happens during a Rebirthing Breathwork session?

Beginning any new therapeutic or wellbeing practice can feel daunting, especially if you have experienced emotional difficulties in the past.

At Suma, new clients begin with a Rebirthing Breathwork consultation. This provides an opportunity to discuss your intentions, ask questions and establish whether the practice is appropriate for you.

Individual sessions typically involve lying down comfortably while being guided through a continuous, connected breathing rhythm. I support you throughout the process, paying attention to your experience and helping you navigate the session.

You may experience relaxation, physical sensations, emotions or insights. You may also find that your experience is quieter or more subtle than you expected. There is no need to force a particular outcome.

Afterwards, there is time to reflect on your experience and consider how it relates to your life.

At Suma, individual Rebirthing Breathwork sessions are available in Newbridge, County Kildare. Please visit my website for current session details and consultation arrangements.

Rebirthing Breathwork can be intense for some people and is not appropriate in every circumstance. An initial consultation and relevant health screening are important, particularly if you have a cardiovascular condition, a seizure disorder, certain eye conditions or significant mental health difficulties. Please discuss any relevant medical or psychological history before beginning.

Your journey back to yourself begins with a breath

You may have spent years trying to become a better version of yourself.

Trying harder. Doing more. Understanding why you feel the way you do. Trying to meet expectations while wondering why something inside you still feels unsettled.

Perhaps the next step is not to push yourself harder, but to create space to listen.

You deserve the opportunity to explore your feelings, question the patterns that no longer serve you and discover what a more authentic life might look like.

You do not have to know exactly what needs to change. You do not have to arrive with all the answers. And you do not have to navigate every part of your inner journey alone.

If you feel drawn to explore Rebirthing Breathwork, I invite you to take the first step.
